Know Before You Go
You may think you know exactly what to do when you go to a casino, but do you really know the ins and outs of casino etiquette? Is Blackjack casino etiquette different than etiquette at other table games? Are you supposed to tip your dealer? Is there specific slot machine etiquette? These are all important questions to ask yourself, and if you don’t know the answers, then you’ve come to the right place. Harrington Raceway & Casino can tell you everything you need to know about casino etiquette, so you can feel confident and comfortable at the tables.
Dress Properly
Though you can always check with the casino, and most casinos allow more casual dress during the day, it’s typical to dress up when going to a casino.
Know The Rules
Appropriate roulette etiquette, or etiquette for any other games in the casino, is to know the rules before you sit down. That goes for blackjack and slot machines as well. Although you may find a dealer patient enough to teach you the rules, the games will be more fun with all parties involved if you’re aware of the rules before you sit down. Knowing the rules includes knowing how to get chips at a casino. In most cases, you can get it from the cage, the cashier found in the casino, or at the table from the dealer.
Tip The Dealer
Just like you would tip a server after a meal, you want to tip your dealer as well. It keeps the mood light and is especially good for you if you decide to return to their table later on. A $5-$10 tip when you’re leaving the table is good casino etiquette.
Don’t Use Your Phone
Though it isn’t considered cheating to use your phone, it is considered rude. Follow casino etiquette by turning your phone off or on silent and keeping it in your pocket. Constantly talking, texting or taking pictures can be distracting for other players.
Don’t Get Drunk
We want all of our guests to have a good time, but it’s poor casino etiquette to come to the tables drunk. The gambling experience is meant to be fun and relaxing, and drunken behavior can be distracting and have a negative impact for other guests.
